A Century of Deans Rag Books & Rag Dolls Dean's Patent Rag Books first appeared in 1902, made from untearable cotton and printed in colourfast, washable colours. Illustrated by some of the best loved artists of the day, these nursery primers became an overnight success with parents, being virtually indestructible in the hands of their young owners. Lively and stimulating topics ranged from ABC and object books to books on animals, cars and trains. Equally popular, an ever increasing range of imaginative dolls and toys were also created from the same materials. This volume celebrates the centenary of Dean's rag books and toys and pays tribute to those artists who created them. Action Man |
